Last week was tough: I caught Japanese virus.
To my disappointment, instead of immersing in Japanese culture, I was immersed in the Japanese medical scene.
I missed Sogetsu classes. You can’t be coughing and blowing your nose constantly while people are making Ikebana. Nobody does it anyway. People are quietly hiding their faces in masks. It’s protocol: you feel sick, put on a mask. I bought a pack and wondered how they do it. You can’t really breathe in it, forget, when breathing is a problem.
I went twice to the foreigner-friendly International Catholic Hospital. By law, if you don’t speak Japanese you need an interpreter for medical appointments.A doctor gave me antibiotics and tons of other pills. I had to take 21 tablets a day. In a few days, I was worse and went back. It was suggested I continue with the same tablets.
I consulted my GP over the phone. He suggested continuing with another antibiotic which I had brought from home.
Still, I wasn’t getting better.
My friend Kimiko visited me on Sunday afternoon. She couldn’t believe how sick I was. She immediately took me to a Medical Clinic in Ikebukuro. They put me on a drip and gave me my 3rd set of antibiotics, plus many more pills. I have Japanese virus and post virus inflammation. After a week I was no better. In desperation, I went to a Chinese herbalist to receive tincture made from an endangered caterpillar. I drank it too.
It’s nearly 2 weeks since I became sick. I hope to go back to Sogetsu on Thursday.
The weather has cooled down and spectacular foliage of red and gold is everywhere.
Department store’s windows dressed for Christmas. Christmas lights and decorations are everywhere.
These are some Museums I have visited earlier. Tokyo station has a wonderful gallery with the biggest Chagall exhibition: 170 works of ceramics and paintings.
Shiodome Museum is showing Kandinsky, Rouault and other contemporaries.
I also looked at Ginza 6 Centre at Yayoi Kusama display “Love Forever.”
In Ginza 6 I spotted an amazing exhibition of Shoe designer Masaya Kushi. The photos are not really good as the light on the display was underneath. You might google the designer name or just
